He supposed it was better this way. Despite everything the two of them had shared in the past, this had become and inevitable end. Perhaps he should have seen it coming, hell, maybe he had seen it coming but just ignored it, either way, that dreaded time had arrived.
At least there was one upside— He was still alive.
Hah. At least most of him was after the goodbyes were said and done.
And he supposed that maybe it was his fault for being gone, but his ‘work’ was far more important to him than his romance. If you could call it that. Protecting the innocent would always be his first priority, therefore, he would always be absent. But… Well, that’s just how life works. He’d move on. They’d all move on. Sure, the punk still loved the Dark Slayer and he probably always would. No doubt about it. That’s why he let him go to another who could fulfill his needs. Yeah, it’d all work out in the end.
And if not, well, he wouldn’t be around to see it.
After saying his last farewells, the teen left the manor to return to his trailer and his forgotten, lonely life. No brother, no lover, no child.
Home sweet home.

peace out girl scouts
“….. Fine.” The word was almost choked out. But he really had no choice. “Just… No sex, and… Don’t let him replace me. That’s all I ask. For now though.. I’m home.” His arms extended to bring Vergil in for a hug, kissing his cheek.
“No one could replace you.” Lips touched his…
Dante kissed back but it wasn’t as rough as it could have been. He allowed Vergil to take over mostly, hands gripping lightly at the man’s coat.
A heavy sigh escaped him after that. He already knew everything Vergil had explained, but he wasn’t a miracle worker. At least not in this sense. “As much as I wish my world could revolve around you, it can’t. I have responsibilities. I don’t know what to do… I can’t leave you…

“You make me happy.” The anger was back after it became clear emotion was welling up in his eyes. Vergil only expressed one emotion naturally; he refused to express anything that left him vulnerable. “What about Nero, Dante?” His eyes were narrowed when they focused back on the teen. “How safe do you think he is when I’m huddled in the bathroom, hiding from myself? Do you know what he asks me when I’m at my breaking point? Where’s Nero? If Nelo Angelo takes over, he’s going straight for my son. Then, do you know who he’s going to go after next? You. You, Dante. He’s going to kill you because you’re the person I care about most after my own son. I don’t want to be alone with myself because I’m a threat to everything I care about. I need a distraction, but I need you most.”
A heavy sigh escaped him after that. He already knew everything Vergil had explained, but he wasn’t a miracle worker. At least not in this sense. “As much as I wish my world could revolve around you, it can’t. I have responsibilities. I don’t know what to do… I can’t leave you alone, but I can’t be here twenty-four-seven either. What do you want me to do?!”
He either had to make a promise he couldn’t keep or Dante would leave him, but Vergil couldn’t answer him. There was no honour in lying and he wouldn’t let the nephilim go. “I…” The cambion folded his arms over his chest and cast his gaze to the floor between them. “I can’t face my demons. I can’t do it…I need you.”
Dante’s gaze never left Vergil. The anger in them had since been suppressed by a sort of sadness. Disappointment maybe. Worry for sure. “I love you… But… I can’t be here all the time… I just…” It was clear he was conflicted, he didn’t want to leave, but he was hurt and about all else, damn worried. “There are other “me’s” out there… Ones that can make you happy.”
